Traveling from Rome to Florence : Need options due to FS group train strike
Hello,
My wife and I are currently in Rome for the next couple of days and have tickets to go to Florence by train on September 8th @ 6 AM. Today, I got an email that due to a strike by the FS group most of the trains are cancelled and unless you're rescheduling your travel you can apply for a refund. We don't want to reschedule to another day as we made reservations for the Uffizi gallery tour on September 8th @ 10.30 AM.
I asked our host and he informed us that there are some trains that are guaranteed to run despite the strike. I looked them up on Trenitalia website but most of these are after 5PM and none in the AM afaik.
There are a couple of Italo trains that are also guaranteed but the one we would like to take ( Rome to Venice @ 6.55 AM , train # 8924, has a Florence stop is what we were told ) doesn't have guaranteed as a note on the right hand column so we're not entirely sure. Is this train guaranteed to run? Can we book tickets for this train?
Our plan is to visit the Trenitalia office at Roma Termini tomorrow to find out more about this Italo train # 8924 and get tickets if it is indeed guaranteed. This is our best case scenario as we don't want to cancel our tour reservations for Uffizi gallery.
I also looked into flights but none of them are before 8AM. Taxis from Rome to Florence are really expensive but this would be our last resort if there are no guaranteed trains.
Are there any other options for us to reach Florence on the morning of September 8th and still keep the tour reservation at 10.30 AM?
