Rituals
I finished the book literally last night, and I'm already having a blast getting into the weeds with people's interpretations and theories. It feels like finishing a FromSoft game and finally being able to watch VaatiVidya's series and read the discourse around item descriptions etc.
The thing that stuck out the most to me in general was every single character having some kind of ritual. Whether it was a quirk of their routine, a substance or just something they did in private, I think the best (and it seems a lesser discussed) part of what makes this book amazing is its' constant commitment to character building, each person having one small thing that brings them peace or joy or calm or whatever it is. So many that I'm sure a good 70% are lost on you by the time you finish the book but they still help paint super vivid pictures of characters who don't even have dialogue.
Dope book.
