Honest review of IGL - A Note to Samay
I'm a big fan of Samay and IGL, but I feel the quality of the episodes has declined over time. And the biggest driver of this seems to be the judges. The judges play a crucial role, and they need to strike the right balance of wit, engagement, and giving space to others. Ideally, judges should allow their fellow judges to speak, let the contestants perform freely, and only step in to react or add value when needed.
Two episodes stood out as particularly disappointing: the ones featuring Kalal and Rakhi Sawant. The problem in both cases was that the judges were overly vocal - to the point of being annoying and disruptive. They dominated the conversation, sidelined their fellow judges, and didn’t let the contestants shine. And they were not even funny. For example, the last act in the Kalal episode felt unnecessary and downright terrible. Similarly, Rakhi Sawant seemed intent on hogging screen time, which prevented Maheep from contributing effectively. It came across as chaotic and poorly managed.
If I were Samay, I’d take a few steps to address these issues:
- Limit the number of judges to a maximum of five, including Balraj.
- Avoid letting my personal fandom for certain celebrities overshadow what’s best for the show i.e. dont bring in judges like Sawant and Kalal.
What do you think? Do you agree?
