IAmA School bus driver. Ask me anything! :)
Several times in a thread I have made a comment about my job and I always end up answering questions about it. So I figured a IAmA is the best solution! So weather you just want to know why I take so long loading my kids or share a good story with me about your driver then fire away!
A little back round on me before we start. I started driving School bus September 2001. For a while I also held the title of Dispatcher (the person in the office managing all the buses while en route). I have also trained drivers before and taught at meetings about student control and special needs transportation. I have driven for city schools and as of now I drive for a small town in upstate New York. Another words, I have driven in the city as well as deep in the back dirt roads too. Almost 13 years later I am still in love with my job. I've seen it all, cleaned it all and heard it all. I have been in some very dangerous situations and some very funny situations as well.
If there is one absolute about my job it is that kids are unpredictable. For that reason, every day is different and that is why I love it.
I will do my best to answer any and all questions but please keep in mind that laws vary from State to State. I will do my best to word the laws as I know they are written but please understand that it is impossible for me to quote all laws and regulations for all states. Remember that states can take a law and add to it if they so choose.
When it doubt, call your local school Transportation department and just ask. :)
Lastly, I apologize now for any typos or spelling errors. Some times my fingers work faster than my brain. That or the cat is trying to have a sits on my keyboard while typing.
Thanks for your comments and love ahead of time! MissMap
