Savage 42 Updated Review (.410/.22wmr)

After putting a decent optic on this gun, handling some other combo guns, and really putting it through the ringer I admit I judged this gun a bit harshly. It's now my favourite rabbit gun hands down. It is still a cheap construction and I find it hard to justify the price point but it's still useful once you put a good reddot on it.

.410 patterns well out to only 25 yards since it's a fixed IC choke. But it's super easy to slam rabbits with and you never destroy the rabbit. Slugs also group within a couple inches at 25 yards.

As for the. 22wmr you can get sub 1" groups at 25 yards and I would be confident in dropping a jack rabbit at 100 yards, maybe even more. Which is nice because it makes up for the limited range of the .410.
