Why does Larys help Aegon? He is a sociopath
Yeah, we saw how Aemond insulted him, but that's Aemond. He also said "Do you take me for a fool?" as if Larys was trying to manipulate him. I'm not sure he was, but it's obviously meant to be seen as if Larys tried to manipulate him and failed.
Larys is shown to enjoy watching torture and he manipulates the queen to let him masturbate in front of her. And he kills his family while getting along fine with them. He is also a bit like Varys in manipulating behind the scenes. He knows the rumors in the city or he just makes stuff up.
He has barely tried to manipulate Aemond. He failed because he misjudged him once. Alicent was in the top of the top regarding influence/power and is - until Aemond fires her and she sacrifices everything she ever stood for - very dutiful and I'd say deep down a good person/ruler. She seemed to grow to/learn love Viserys. She seemed to like his company despite their age difference. She cared for and took care of him when he was sick.
She did what she thought was right, except that she flat out refused Rhaenyra's offer of marriage between their kids. But she knew she offered a de facto bastard; de jure he is not but everyone but Viserys knows it.
She played no part in the plan to make Aegon king, a conspiracy that had been going on for some time.
She did EVERYTHING for her family, and is - I'm team Black - driven not only by power hunger but morals, and she almost cried and said "I did not wish for this" when Larys torched his father so that Otto would return. She is a good queen and if 1) Rhaenyra's children were trueborn (ffs, I don't need to explain explicitly how she get pregnant with Laenor even if he can't have sex with her), and 2) Viserys hadn't thought he talked to Rhaenyra, which I believe he did until he said "my love" (that was about Aemma), and during my first watch I blamed Alicent and thought she twisted his words in purpose. But from her POV is it does sound like he wants their son to be the heir
... then she would not have made him King on her own.
This person has countless dinners with Larys and she seems to, Except the feet thing. She is the queen and has the power to do whatever she refused l wants with Larys. Btw imagine how he brought it up the first time.
So why does he offer Aegon to live if my off his own saved gold? Well usually the lords' money provides for a shitload more then just two people living well. Still, he has no income but interest.
The Larys we knew would 1) Try to gain Aemonds trust and 2) Vote for Alicent since their "friendship" or at least alliance was quite deep. He started when she was a very young woman (adolescent in our world). Or 3) Switch sides if he believes that the Greens are done for
How will he maintain his spy abilities if he is in Bravos? I hope he builds up a business there because Helaena said Aegon will be King again, but from a wooden throne. He certainly has money to invest in something lucrative and if he tells people who Aegon is they will be eager to support him. But I guess that's too dangerous.
Going away with one of be the two rightful monarchs (the greens hold the IT and has more power in Westeros as of now (the North and the Riverlands are Rhaenyra's, while the Reach, Westerlands, Stormlands and Crownlands are under the Greens) but Rhaenyra is the rightful heir as the King's word is law etc, but whatever
I'm very disappointed as I believe they will get very little screen time next season. And it's not how the Larys we know would act. From his POV Aegon is the least likely winner
