Powerline Adapter is Worsening Internet Connection for Everyone Else
Okay so from the start, my desktop has poor internet. I try downloading Microsoft office but it said it would take 3 days, and kept cancelling.
So I bought a Netgear Powerline Adapter and it helped quite a lot. It’s not as good as a direct router connection but there isn’t anything I can do with that while I live with family, and office only took 30-40 minutes to download.
Here’s the issue, the router only has one port, and my family uses that for another wifi extender we use for everything. So to use my powerline adapter the rest of the house’s WiFi goes out. So that’s not fair so I also bought another adapter to add 4 extra ports to the router.
Now I’m testing everything out, things were rocky at first and I could quite get the powerline adapter to connect. The outlet had the adapter and an extension cord in it, with the router and extender plugged into that. I moved the extension cord to an outlet a few feet away and dragged it over, and plugged the router directly into the wall. That solves my computer problem, but now I still can’t use wifi, it says it’s connected but nothing loads whatsoever. The extender’s light is still on but I have to use data.
So this is a puzzle for me, I feel like the story of dragging a fox, sheep and seed across a river. I want to have my powerline adapter and wifi extender all to work, but unless the router is in the same circuit it seems to affect the other. Maybe all 3 should be in the extension cord but that sounds like it’ll be slow. Any solutions or advice?
