Interpreting the Ancient Messages

The last time Vis goes to the ruins there is a message (with a guesstimated translation)

“Herein lies the way to Luceum and Obiteum, offered to all those who would contest our extinction. Know that none who accept this task may remain. The burden of harmony is reserved for the one who seals the authors of war from this world. Only he may exceed the hobbled capabilities of this duplication. He and he alone may risk harmony to make the great sacrifice.”

The test helpers all seem to give the message of “I was a traitor to the commandment of isolation. I attempted to gain synchronism and remove the seal to Obiteum during the rebellion of XYZ era after the rending.

This seems directly linked to the first ruins which had the message “Obiteum is lost. Do not open the gate. Synchronous is death.”

As well as “Luceum. Obiteum. Res. Remember, but do not mourn.”

Artemis informs Vis that the test is to check “basic proficiency” and that after you pass through the gate to Obiteum and Luceum, through Synchronism is reserved for leadership only.

Finally, the dead people with swords told Vis “complete the journey, Warrior.

To me this paints the picture that there was a conflict involving the three worlds. The labyrinth would test the abilities of potential soldiers who would go through the gate to fight in the other realms, perhaps to prevent them from getting into their world. I interpret the “burden of harmony” as being synchronization. These will be the leaders who will both fight in other realms, as well as seal off the realms from each other. Perhaps it needs to be done from both sides. Synchronization corrupts and eventually kills you however, which is why it is the great sacrifice.

Caten (Res?) was attacked, later known as the cataclysm, but the invaders were pushed out of their world. The war eventually lead to the sealing of Obiteum where either the antagonists were pushed back to, they originate, or perhaps Obiteum was simply overrun. Anybody that tried to open the way to Obiteum was thus condemned to servitude.

As for the mysterious man at the end, it seems clear that the revolution is being co-opted by other actors for a different purpose. Since Ves is needed to prevent another cataclysm, perhaps the former invaders are wanting to weaken the hierarchy before they begin a second invasion. This may not even be the first time this has happened, since the Spectors have referred to trying to open the seal during a rebellion era.
