Nyc based hsv-ers, what advice did your medical professionals give you?

I am moving from the UK to the US and am curious what people’s doctors said when they were diagnosed.

Here in the UK I was told to abstain during outbreaks, use condoms, and that disclosure was my choice not a legal requirement.

However I see that NY has a state law about not disclosing a STI being a misdemeanour. But then the lawsuits I see tend to be mostly for hsv2 (I have ghsv1). Just curious what the medical professionals in that state advised you regarding disclosure?
