Just back from two weeks in the Cyclades

Quick review. We got back on 12/10.

Itinerary was 2 nights in Athens, then 3 nights on each of Serifos, Sifnos, Folegandros and Santorini. We used ferries for every transfer.

Weather was excellent! Consistently 4-5 degrees above average for the time of year.

We had an apartment in Athens with a shared roof terrace with views across the Acropolis, which we used both nights until 2am with other guests. We did a whole day marching round the historic sights and it wasn’t as crowded as I’d feared!

Serifos was beautiful, or at least the port bay and Hora were as that was as far as we got! Some great beach bars and restaurants with a special mention to Vasillia on Livadakia beach!

On Sifnos we hired a car for one day. Stayed in Kamares but got to most places in the South. Highlight was the Chrissopigi Monastery and the lunch at the beachside restaurant there. I’ve been to Sifnos before so was upset that the two beach bars at the far side of Kamares beach had both closed.

I’ve been to Folegandros before too, and it was as lovely as ever. Great addition of a winery on the outskirts of the Hora. Buses to Angali beach had already closed down so we walked (taxi back though, that’s a proper hill!). The island was closing down at the end of this week so there were few tourists around.

Hmmm… Santorini. I’d been before but my partner was keen to see it. Less keen after she had! There were eight cruise ships in on the day we went to Fira and Oia. It was bad, especially after being on some quiet islands. We were staying out by the Boutari winery near Megalochori, which was lovely and had very good Caldera views and free shuttles to Fira and the beaches.

The goal was a restful two weeks away and we certainly achieved that!
