Ranking system is ridiculous: die slowly, keep moving up

Or die really quick and move up anyways.

I've been trying to do more ranked play for rewards, but it really frustrates me how I've kept moving up in rank (Gold III, ZB OG and Reload). Lower ranks, I could compete some, maybe get in the top 10-20. I get a lucky kill sometimes but mostly just die. Why does this ranking make sense?

I'm still pretty new at this, only started playing a few months ago so I could play with my kids.
