Kill A Deal Over $1500?

My wife and I submitted an offer on a home in Texas at listing price. After inspections we found out that basically everything to do with the pool is either barely working or needs to be replaced and is currently unsafe to use. This amounts to somewhere between 11k - 15k in work. We asked the seller for 14k in concessions to be able to repair the pool and bring it to a usable condition. The seller countered with replanting the pool (~ $6500 of work) and $3000 in concessions. We countered saying we’d need at least $5000 in concessions or he’d need to fix the tile and coping on the pool as well. The seller is refusing to do either and is only willing to come up to $3500 on concessions. At this point we’re fed up with the seller. The house we put an offer on has been on the market for over 8 months and we feel like we’re being realistic in what we’re asking. Objectively the difference between closing and not is $1500 but emotionally it feels like this seller is just trying to pinch pennies from us.

My question is what would you do in our situation?
