Every "Crisis" Titled FFVII Game Ruins Sephiroth More
I feel like every time the plot is expanded on in a prequel manner it makes Sephiroth more confusing of a character. I fully understood Sephi going crazy in the OG but it doesn't make sense in Crisis Core b/c how would reading about his origins make him go crazy when he's already talked to Angeal, Lazarus, AND Genesis about their origins. By the time he reads Hojo's notes in the mansion it shouldn't be something that's mind-breaking at that point. Like why are you surprised you were created too??? GENESIS ALREADY TOLD YOU YOU WERE??? It just undermines all the tension of the Nibelheim event which is so important.
Then I see ppl trying to "smolbean" Sephiroth b/c of whatever they do in Ever Crisis. I guess he befriends Glenn and tries to help ppl but idk he was literally created to be the perfect WMD made partially from the cells of a world eater and partially from a sociopathic egomaniac.
Ever retcon just seems to further undermine the biggest event of two of the main characters and makes Sephiroth's descent from "hero" to "Gaia's greatest threat" more nonsensical
.
EDIT: Firstly this is not an attack or dismissal of the Crisis titles in the series; this is a criticism of how certain story elements are presented. I enjoyed Crisis Core and the addition of the other 1st Class SOLDIERs.
It seems that a maybe these new editions were made to add more and more impact to the fall of Sephiroth which is definitely understandable but I think it just didn't hit that way for me (that's just personal taste at that point)
