Writing a gangster film / mafia novel: Is the genre exhausted?

I am a big fan of these stuff, but I hasn't seen a good film in this genre in these days. Newest mafia films hasn't got that atmosphere for me as like Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino or Scarface. The classic gangster movie stars are like nowadays rock stars. Old dudes. I'm sad, because I think, mafia films are the rock music of the Hollywood. Where are the amazing and interesting stories? Where are the new generation? What does it like? I'm very curious, how does other people see this.

(I try to write my own book, but sometimes I feel, that the genre is totally exhausted. Thanks for every answer and sorry for my english, I'm not a native english speaker.)
