Why is musk considered a “clean” scent?

I have been so confused about this since I got into fragrances. I greatly dislike musk (true musk, other lighter musks I can do) and have been confused as to why musk is always described as “clean.” I think of musk as a dirty “I haven’t showered in 3 days” type of scent. To me, a clean scent would be soapy, fresh, airy. That smells like the opposite of musk.

Also, anyone else repelled by musk? I feel like I’m the only one and frequently love the top notes of a perfume but the musky dry down gets me wanting to wash it off immediately.
