Series that are considered to be consistently good all the way through

Of course, there will never be complete consensus on anything, there will always be people who didnt like some of the books in any given series. That said, what series are widely considered to retain a good quality thoughout?

The reason why I ask this is I often see the first book of a series recommended to someone with no consideration or mention of how the series as a whole holds up. People seldom want to read the first book of a series and not the other ones. So to me it is important that the rest of the books are also good, not just the first one.
