Bad experience. Normal?
Created my first evernote account in 2011 and ended up closing it around 2019 after all the privacy issues and directionless movement of the company.
After trying out so many apps, I realized almost no other apps have so many features that are core to my note experience. Voice-to-text, image transcription, OCR search, tasks and calendar. While I have resigned that LaTeX is probably never coming, I wanted to return since I have heard that Bending Spoon has been doing a good job with the app. I am willing to stomach an expensive bill if my notes app can get out of my way in getting things done.
But MY GOD this is bad. I signed up for a free account few days ago to test it for few days. It was slow. I thought maybe its trying to index and get itself settled into my computer (intel 9th gen 16 inch mac). But it only got slower and glitchier(?). I have like 5 notes in this as this is a new account.
Is this what everyone is complaining about? This is unusable. I really want to give this app a fair attempt but I can't even start at this rate.
Since I can't attach a video here, I am sharing a Notion link with that video: https://busy-watcher-80b.notion.site/Bad-Experience-with-Evernote-da50133435df4251b4b63f8a360c005f?pvs=4
UPDATE::
Seems like a bad install. It took about 4 tries to get the app working smoothly. That said, there are too many glitches. Opening it up left me on black white screen once (had to restart). Sometimes opening takes 20 seconds to load. Unfortunately, OCR seems bad compared to previous EN experience (rose tinted glasses maybe?). I am not feeling very confident with my experience so far even if someone were to promise me that my notes will be safe and accessible.
Sigh... I really wanted to like you EN, but you seem to need a lot of work on the fundamentals. Maybe 1 year is too soon to fix all the underlying problems. I will attempt again later (maybe 4-6 months). But hopefully the price doesn't increase any more considering that Evernote is borderline on cost to benefit ratio. Any more and it would get more affordable to own multiple subscriptions (like AI + Notes + something) than EN alone.
Will pop by once in a while.
