Green ants on the outside of my walls? Why?

I came home yesterday to this and they're still here this morning. Do we know why they'd be doing this? Are they trying to get inside?

I have lived here for over four months and this is the first time ive seen this but I did have some white ants that did something similar for about 24 hours a month or so ago.
