Is this normal for a daycare?
Hello. I recently finished interviewing at a daycare with a church attached and the interview was going very well until the director was saying how the pastor of the church will reach out to me for the second interview.
The church and daycare are in the same building but separate with hallways and doors so one side is the daycare and the one side is the church.
Is it normal for a non-childcare professional to have this much input into me being hired at a childcare center? Why would someone who doesn’t work in childcare be interviewing me for a childcare job?
Also, I am not Christian or all that religious yet(working on it) if he asks me about my home church or religion and I don’t have an answer is that going to completely disqualify me from the job? Is that legal? To not give me the job based on religious standing? I don’t want to lie to get this job but I don’t want to be turned away because I’m not crazy religious.
The ratios are small and it is non profit so I am okay with the pay I asked for of $15.50. The ratio I saw were 1:4 and 1:5. I didn’t see many red flags aside from the pastor thing. Has anyone worked at a church daycare? Did you have a second interview with a pastor? Overall can you tell me about your experience working in a church daycare? Thanks in advance
