Bryce Young’s year in fantasy.
Bryce Young took the next step this year after a rocky start that saw him benched.
Let’s take a look at his season from 3 viewpoints.
Here is where he finished the season among QBs on a PPG basis*
Rank: 24th
PPG: 13.7
Names around him: Dak Prescott, Drake Maye, and Daniel Jones.
Evaluating Bryce’s season takes more nuance than this though. Mainly because this includes his games where he came in as a backup. When evaluating him it’s important to filter out games that he didn’t really play in to get a more accurate picture of who he was as a starter this season.
Only including games that Bryce started:
Rank: 15th
PPG: 15.76
Just under Herbert/Tua and above Jordan Love.
The final viewpoint that I think is important for us to consider is how different he was as a player from the start of the season compared to when he came back.
Bryce after he came back from his benching:
Rank: 10th
PPG: 17.75
Above names like: Purdy, Mahomes, and Kyler.
(*in all of these I filtered out QBs that did not start at least 3 games this season)
Now normally I do not like to arbitrarily move dates around to draw conclusions on players. I think if you do it for some and not for others it can get skewed.
That being said I think this is a completely valid and accurate way to evaluate Bryce’s year. 2 gives a middle of the road perspective and 3 gives in my opinion a more clear view of who he could be… which is a low end QB1.
If the panthers can bring in a true WR 1 for him next year then it will be awesome to see if he can take one more step forward and be a true difference maker in fantasy and really solidify himself as a QB 1.
