Unsure what to expect w Vetoryl

Hello. My dog was just diagnosed and I'm not sure what to expect with the Vetoryl she was prescribed. She has been obsessed with food recently and I'm hoping this medicine will curb the appetite. Has anyone else found that to be the case? She barks constantly and often for about 15 minutes straight trying to get more food and is already overweight. The vet, in hindsight, didn't give me a lot of information. Either that or I was just in shock that I felt like we got a death sentence for my nine-year-old girl.
