Never done a cruise, would like info

I have never been on a cruise. My wife growing up has been on a lot. She recently expressed interest in going on one, I'd like to take her but have no idea where to start or which line to use. Anyone that can give some info would be appreciated. There's a million websites offering deals but have no idea who to trust. Would like to do at least a week at somewhere tropical.
