Is anyone here taking home wildfire prep seriously?
Given recent news about climate change's (possibly) faster than expected pace, and the fires in California (and Berlin, CT), is anyone living in a rural or semi-rural area in CT starting to look into serious changes to home exterior, landscaping, etc to take into account the possibility we could be facing far worse fire risk here in the near future?
I basically live in the woods with many wonderful shade trees and my siding is stained cedar shakes. It's awesome. But I'm starting to wonder if the fire risk on the scale of 10-30 years might be excessive.
I'm considering starting to take steps like those outlined by the CA state government: https://readyforwildfire.org/prepare-for-wildfire/
I lived in CA for several years, and I know that our climate is nowhere near as hot and dry (and windy) as the locations that have experienced these catastrophic fires in recent years, but I am still wondering to what extent rural homeowners like me out here may be underestimating our risks.
I'm curious about other folks thoughts on this issue.
