Hamden homeowners - how do you afford property tax?

With the median household salary being $80k and the average per person being ~$48k - the math isn’t mathing.

My partner and I make about $170k combined and we were looking at a fixer upper property in the area at about $350k - and the taxes per year were $22k per year!

This would add nearly $1800-2000 to the mortgage which is crazy. Are taxes actually this high or are the calculators I’m using all messed up.

How are you all doing it?
