Independent adjuster

I’m about to finish my course to get my 6-20 adjuster license. I’m located in the Tampa Bay Area and Ive been in the water restoration business for the last 6 years so I have a good understanding of what needs to be done for all property restoration jobs. Very minor xactimate experience, but I have a great support system of estimaters that’ll guide me in the right direction of furthering my xactimate knowledge. I’m curious on how getting started as an independent adjuster works. When your hired by a firm is it possible to do ride alongs with other adjusters to get the hang of things? Or would it be better to get hired by a insurance company and work 1st party. My goal is to do CAT work. Any input of being an IA is much appreciated.
