Hot take: Most religious people don't actually believe through understanding, just intertia

I think a lot of people believe or not believe in God just for the sake of it, without any actual reasoning/argument/understaning behind to support their stance.

For context, I was raised catholic but I've never really felt the presence of God or anything like that and I've never really practiced apart from going to church every sunday with my parents as a kid.

I've been doubting the existence of God for several years but have been supressing those thoughts until now so I'm embarking myself into a research project to "finally" find out whether I believe or not (study the bible, rational arguments, history, talk with people on both sides, etc.)

What's your take on this?
