How to adjust
I’m a chef from the southeast and I took a job in NYC under the impression that I would be in a more modern kitchen culture. To my surprise I’ve been verbally berated by my team and when I ask for clarification the responses to my question are snarky remarks and side eyes. Having a position such as this can put my career on an upward trajectory, but I don’t like the old school kitchen approach being that it doesn’t allow for learning and is militaristic which is something I have been against post pandemic. I would like to stay here at least a year but if I have to subject myself to the unrelentingly horrid lifestyle of oui chef only I fear I may loose myself. Any advice is welcomed
I DONT want to quit I just want tips on how to adjust to it. I understand that this is a hard job and I am looking for ways to balance things out so i do not burnout I sold my house and left my previous job and brokeup with a girl i was really into to come so failure is not an option. I just need to learn the strategies that will help me ADJUST.
