Would you have eaten here?
Was on vacation with my husband this weekend and there was a crepe place we could walk to that has gluten free options, but that is not 100% gluten free. One of the owners is a Celiac and when I asked they said they changed their gloves, wiped everything down, and used paper to separate everything. Okay, seems reasonable...except when they said they used paper to separat, they didn't put paper on the actual cooking surface that they put normal crepes on??? They said that they scrubbed it down, but I decided my husband could eat mine. Sure the owner is a Celiac, but I've met Celiacs who are less mindful of cross contact because their symptoms are minimal (even though we all know it causes long term damage).
I know many of you will only eat at 100% gluten free establishments, that's not the discussion I am trying to open. If possible I'd like to hear from those who are willing to eat in shared spaces, but only if the proper precautions are in place. Would this shared cooking surface that is "scrubbed really well" be good enough in your eyes?
