Family members say I shouldn’t get a 2nd cat?

I’m a guy have 3-4 yr old female cat atm. I live n a one bed apt. I’ve been thinking of getting a younger cat for companionship for my current, I work from 4-3 and occasionally have classes Til 830pm. Thing is when I walk up to my door I hear my girl meowing. And I feel bad, wonder if she had someone to play with during the day she wouldn’t meow at the door.
