Purchasing 2013 Subaru Liberty with knocking sound on acceleration

I am looking at purchasing this 2013 Subaru Liberty for $5000 without RWC, the car looks and drives great, other than one issue: a knocking sound. The sound mostly occurs when accelerating from slow speeds, we did a couple of test drives to try and hear it. Other than that it is not present. I believe the owner has said they took it in (there is a language barrier) and that they couldn’t exactly locate the issue but believed it to be the transmission, which would be cheaper to replace than fix. So given all this, do you believe I should take the risk? I’m on the fence
