Moving TO CT with a handgun?

I currently live in Utah and have a handgun, i plan on moving to CT in the near future. My question is do I need to apply for a CT pistol permit if i legally acquired my handgun in a state which does not require a permit? Is the CT pistol permit to posses a handgun or to purchase one? I did some research but couldnt find a clear answer. any help appreciated!
