How would the event around the February brawl talk look like? (Concept)

As we all know, Supercell has started to do events every update cycle, and this upcoming update will have a LOT of emphasis on Ranked and probably the game's competitive scene as a whole. Due to this not being a collab, we're most likely gonna get an event that thematically correlates to the update similar to how Angels vs Demons did it with the cursed book.

But since events are mostly centered around casual fun with all of the wacky mechanics they've introduced, how would one without that look like?

To start, we need discover why Supercell has conducted so many events in a short time; to gather enough data to make more well recieved events. They take aspects from previous events, reiterate some of those aspects, and throw some new ones in the mix to see how we like them.

Slide 3 highlights all of the new things that have been introduced to the events in white, and all of the returning aspects in green.

The graphic on slide 4 (credit goes to @BrawlSource on twitter) is a poll that the latter created to see which temporary event was the community's favorite, and Angels vs Demons won. This is a clear example of how Supercell's formula for creating better events based on feedback is working, because the newer events seemed to rank higher than the older ones, as seen with Spongebob being higher than Godzilla.

One may argue that the Toy Story event being last contradicts this, but that's because we haven't expirienced it to it's fullest extent unlike the others. We have yet to play through the new point based contest system, the 2v2 modes, or buy anything in the new shop, which is like 75% of the event. Once it's done, then we can get a fair estimate on how much the community actually liked it.

Now we're back to deciding on what the upcoming event would look like. I'm predicting that it's gonna be based on Esports like the rest of it, so here's the features that I've got returning;

  • Contests
  • New loot box item
  • Currency that you can obtain from playing certain gamemodes
  • Event shop

I decided to not include new gamemodes, powerups, or temporary brawlers because obviously the competitive scene around this game revolves around it's core, not the add ons that come and go.

Contests are here because they're competitive by nature, which fits an update like this perfectly. The only thing that I'd change about it to fit is for it to follow the Ranked format but only the maps of one particular gamemode are playable at a time, and maybe do something about the matchmaking to either make it reflect your actual rank in Ranked or base it off of how many points you have in the contest.

The new loot box item is meant to add something entertaining for casual players to enjoy, due to there being no new gamemodes, power ups, or temp brawlers. Instead, they drop ranked skins and random starr powers, one of which being what a majority of the casuals who show interest in ranked want to play towards.

The inclusion of star powers is inspired by the golden starr drop shown in slide 5.

The return of the new currency/event shop format is meant to give casual players an incentive to play the game more, because then they'll be able to get rewards from the event shop that they'll (probably) like. These include the new loot box item I mentioned, hypercharge starr drops, and new skins.

The mechanic I want to introduce here is the option to select which two gamemodes you'd like the currency to appear in. Ranked is guaranteed to have one attatched to it due to what this update is based off of, but you can choose any two trophy gamemodes you want to play for the day to earn the currency.

And that's pretty much it.
