Oregon lawmakers craft bill to shield consumers from the cost of powering data centers

Right now Oregon consumers are being heavily burdened by the cost of infrastructure upgrades to our power grids and energy consumption needed for and used by data centers. This is the first article discussing any type of alternative to hold these multibillion dollar companies accountable for the resource strain they’re imposing on consumers, and it’s long overdue.

According to the article “Oregon has one of the largest data center markets in the nation, in large part due to the state’s especially lucrative tax breaks. Wealthy technology companies operating in Oregon are in line to save billions of dollars in local property taxes in the years ahead.”
