Bookshelf project
Hi all,
I have been asked to make a bookshelf for some friends and would like help choosing joints. Originally, I was planning on just dowelling the thing together and calling it a day, but I realized that it probably wouldn't be the most durable. My friends say that it wouldn't be holding too many heavy books and those books wouldn't be removed and replaced often, so I was thinking it would be easiest to just dado the shelves in and a rabbet for the top.
I originally chose to put the back pieces on when I was planning to dowel the piece together, but would I still need them if I am using dadoes? If so, what joint would be best for that? I was thinking a dovetail would be strongest, but I'm concerned about the tails showing on the sides and don't think I'm up for the challenge of half-blinds.
I also am hand tool only except for a battery drill and the wood I will be using is red oak that was s4s from Menards.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
