What is your opinion on Gene Cousineau? From any or all seasons perspective.

I really liked Gene in season 1, especially. Maybe it’s because Henry Winkler is such a good actor, and the character was funny. But I found myself rooting for him the whole show. I just wanted him to find peace with his son and grandson. I’ve seen many posts/comments on here not liking gene. So I’m curious, what’s your perspective?
