Self taught ballet dancer.

Ok, so I really don’t mean this to be inflammatory in any way, so if I’m out of line for making this post please let me know. I won’t name any names, but I recently found on Instagram the profile of an adult ballet beginner who describes herself as being “self taught with youtube”. She’s also on pointe. There are many other adult dancers (not only adult beginners) praising her technique and her dancing. She is even followed by a popular dance wear brand. And I’m just looking around her profile thinking “is no one seeing a problem with this???”. I will admit that when I first came back to dancing almost a year ago, I started off with ballet videos off of youtube. Thankfully after this finding this sub and seeing people talk about the risks of trying to “teach yourself” I found an in person studio near me and supplemented with zoom classes. Now I exclusively take class in person. Anyway I’m not trying to say anything bad about this person, I guess I’m just confused because no one seemed to have a problem with her being self taught via YouTube and no one seemed to even want to warn her?? Also, now that I’ve been immersed in the ballet world for a little bit, I actually think it’s disrespectful to think that you could possibly teach yourself such a complex art form.

I’m not even sure what the point of this post is, I guess I just want to vent to people who will get it.
