caught doing 50 in a school zone at 9:26am

My girlfriend took my car for the first time by herself, to go to the beach with a friend. I just got the speeding fine in the mail...but the time they were booked is 9:26. she asked her friend the time and she replied "9:30'" so she thought it was finished. They are both from overseas, driving only for the 4th time in Australia. and they were doing 50km/h so not driving stupidly.

My question is can i appeal this ticket at all? or do they not care about what situation caused the fine?
