Public school uniform experience?

We have two public elementary schools we toured for PK3, but one requires uniforms and the other does not. The idea of uniforms at all is completely foreign to me so I wanted to get a teachers perspective (also, if you wore uniforms growing up or your kids wore uniforms would appreciate that too!)

• Are public schools especially strict about it? Like, not total disregard for uniform, but if something like the shoes or the colors are off?

• Do the children (especially the girls) seem comfortable? (I don’t think I willingly wore a skirt between the ages of 2 and 15)

• Are there tangible benefits you see with uniforms?
