Extremely High Utilities Bill
Earlier this week I made a post about our unusually high utilities bill of 27 therms and 803kW which was $396 for 33 days. With some help in a previous post, and using the real-time usage from ConEd, ~80-90% of our electricity is coming from an electric heater (pre-installed in our unit) and then also from good reason, then most of our natural gas comes from the gas heater in my roommate’s room (pre-installed in his bedroom). In our lease it states that “the following utilities are included in the rent: Heat…” so we should not be paying this insane charge when it comes from heat. I emailed ConEd and they said that they are “unable to determine how much electricity the electric heater specifically was using. We bill our customers for the total amount of service provided.” I assume that I now have to contact our landlord/property owner to get this resolved, but I can also foresee that they will not be willing to pay the amount that seems appropriate for heat (probs around $300 of the $396 is a safe bet) so would I then call 311? I commented links about my bill/usage and the real time usage.
Edit: Going to speak with landlord, it seems that maybe we don’t pay for the main gas heater and should’ve been using that
