Main breaker doesn’t have a shut off

So my newly built house did not come with a main breaker shut off, my electrician neighbor installed a generator plugin for me but realized I don’t have a main shut off, he said I can always just pull the meter but then I’d be left with a gaping hole in my breaker housing. Is there another way to go about shutting off the main when I need to use my generator?
