what are our basic expectations on new migrants to Australia??

I ask this as I myself am a migrant, granted I have been here for 40 years and consider myself Aussie, what do we want from our new migrants?

I recall my parents coming here in the early 80s watching them work, go to English school (my mum would also watch play school and sesame Street to learn English). They both worked, dad had two jobs to save a deposit for a house and get off welfare payments, mum was vet from where she came from and they couldn't afford the bridging studies so she worked as a cleaner until she retired about 10 years ago.

once they had enough money they chose to buy in an area not with people from their own background. They integrated with Australian society and culture quite well, mind you they were in their late 20's upon arrival.

So what do we expect of new migrants these days??
