(Illinois) Filing a mechanics lien
I completed a decorative concrete project for a new build construction home a month ago. The customer is claiming they are not satisfied with the work. In my opinion the work looks great and I was actually going to post pictures of the project on my website and other marketing materials. The customer is even moving forward with adding brick and other trim pieces around the work that I’ve completed meaning, they’re not going to tear it out or have someone else re-do it. The project total was $7,000. I have received nothing so far and have paid my subs and the materials provider in the amount of approximately $3,200. There was never a written or signed contract. I sent a bid through text. The customer agreed to the total amount and to have my company do it through text. My question is, do I need an attorney to file a lien? Is not having a signed contract going to screw me even though I could provide screenshots? What does that process look like? Is it as simple as going to the courthouse and filling out some paperwork? What are my chances of actually getting this money?
