Why are Germans not proud of their country?
I understand all the atrocities of the world war, but in my view those things belong to the past. Now Germans can just learn to not do those things and adopt a different worldview. But why not being proud of all the good things that the German people achieve? If there is no national pride, there is no relation of people who live in one country to each other, as all Germans cannot identify with each other rather than through nationality. In case of an outside threat that would be very problematic, in my view. Can somebody explain me how can Germans identify with each other without the notion of the German nation and associating itself with it?
Edit: I think Non_possum_decernere makes a very good point about an importance of having a conditional pride of one’s country and not an unconditional one, which could lead to problems. I people reading this post would realise that I’m talking about that kind of pride. And that the pride at no point should come at the expense of others.
