How would you feel if colleges added requirements for you to apply and be considered?
I see a lot of people saying that the acceptance rate for Oxbridge is higher than many ivies and T10s in general - but they really need to stop comparing two different systems. In the UK, they literally tell you that you need AAA in your A Levels to even be considered, so the people that are applying are people who meet that criteria or get better grades - so a little less shotgunning and more serious, realistic consideration of where they should apply to.
But really, imagine if universities in the US said that you are required to have 1500 SAT or higher, a certain score on your APs or a particular GPA. Yall would riot.
As much as people may disagree, I personally feel that leaving applications open to everyone to evaluate their profile on an individual basis is very lenient. (Forgive me if any university already has a set of requirements that I don't know of)
Edit: I see some people are kinda confused on why I mentioned colleges would set requirements on AP, since they are not as wide spread as A Levels in the UK. I am not very aware of your high school cirriculum, I was just giving a general example for you to visualise how setting standards would increase acceptance rates relative to the number of applications. This is why I said, people need to stop comparing two totally different systems when ranting about their rejection to their dream school, because if the US implemented the same restrictions, just like you are saying, it would be deemed unfair for different socio-economic conditions.
