I got an international phone call from a college that I did not apply to
I’m an incoming international student from Korea, and I recently got a phone call from an American number. This felt really strange since it was my first time ever receiving a call from a foreign number.
When I answered, it was a woman who asked if I was the ___ student (she even knew my full name).
I said yes, and she told me she was from the admissions office of ___ college, a school I had considered applying in the past.
Since I had already been admitted elsewhere through Early Decision, I told her I was going to a different school, and the call ended there.
But I’m confused about this call for a few reasons:
A. How did they know my full name and phone number when I didn’t even apply?
B. The caller spoke Korean, even though the call came from the U.S.
C. Is this normal for international students? Do schools make promotional calls like this?
I just want to know…
