Wtf happened to kyra

I’ve not read the books and I just finished the last episode, I totally expected kyra to somehow end up at the school dance or at the least be reintroduced at some point later in the episode to tie it up properly and let Alex know her parents had died. Really enjoyed the series but I don’t like the way that was left, maybe it fits with the books somehow?
