If you are considering eloping in light of recent events ..
Hey there people.
I know today is a hard one for everyone.
In 2016 with Trumps election, my girlfriend of 4 months and I decided to elope. We were scared of what was to come.
The worst decision I ever made. I found myself married to a emotionally/verbal abusive narcissist (and I don't use that word lightly). She quit her job shortly after we got married, and then relapsed into her pain killer addiction, alcoholism, theft, lying.. then the kicker was her IRS tax debt that wasn't disclosed or criminal history. (Rose colored glasses + trauma bonding+ lesbians = worst relationship latte ever)
This woman destroyed my life in a matter of 10 months. It's been 7 years since I divorced her, and the mess still follows me.
That being said - I have seen posts in various Queer groups I belong to- about eloping and marriage in light of recent events.
I share my experience not as a means to say "Don't do it" - but please please please do your due diligence. Make sure you are marrying a person who is safe, who is transparent, and who won't make the already scary reality - even worse.
All the love peeps. 🐥
