I finally wrote my representative about offshoring

A few days ago I was in a comment section discussing the offshore and I said I would write my rep.

Well, I did. I encourage you all to send the same to whoever your representative is, state and congressional.

Sign it as a CPA if you can.

The damage to our profession will be irreparable if we continue to allow the AICPA to dictate what is acceptable practices. We must escalate this to the persons with actual power in this country.

Dear representative:

I am writing to you to take action regarding a significant issue affecting <STATE> CPA’s.

Over the past several decades, large accounting organizations have established offshore offices in India, Philippines, and other countries. As a result, professional service quality has declined significantly. Where other professions, such as the BAR, have prohibited offshoring of this licensure type work, the AICPA and CALCPA appear to be supportive of this offshoring.

The effect has been disastrous: In 2024, the PCAOB found deficiencies in 46% of audits in 2023, up from 40% in 2022. Deficiencies occur when an auditor fails to collect enough evidence to support part or all of their conclusion. We, the employed CPA’s and professionals of California, believe this is caused by the unchecked decision to offshore this work.

Our largest professional organization is undermining our efforts to sustain the highest standards possible. These offshore teams are not subject to the same levels of standards that we <STATE> and American CPA’s are, and quality control of the firms performing the offshoring are insufficient to respond to the risk.

For the good of the profession and your constituents, please take action to require that <STATE> professional service organizations have no legal ability to offshore this work, or other action as you deem necessary and effective to protect the reputation, livelihood, and well being of the profession.

Signed:

<YOU>
