DW Specialist (9mm) or Staccato
Hey all,
I’m new to the 1911/2011 world and am looking to pickup something in the $1800-$2800 price point as a range gun. I’m looking for something in 9mm just because I have a good amount of it to shoot.
Took a look at my LGS and they have a government sized Dan Wesson Specialist (9mm, DUTY finish, optics ready) and an assortment of Staccato’s (P - not sure if steel or aluminum frame, XC, C2, and 2024 C). The Specialist feels great in hand and is buttery smooth, but I’ve heard questionable things about DW when it comes to reliability and customer service. However, the traditional look and feel of the DW is very attractive at that price point.
The Staccato’s didn’t feel quite as solid (aluminum frames I’m guessing) but were very nice. The capacity is also attractive even though it’ll mostly be a range toy. I’ve heard great things about the reliability of Staccato’s (when maintained properly) so that isn’t a huge concern. I’m inclined to look at the 4’ C or full sized P for a range gun, but haven’t had the pleasure to shoot a Staccato so am not sure. The Staccato’s are a bit more expensive but that isn’t a massive factor, but I do think I like the look and feel of the DW slightly more.
Has anyone had experiences with either the 9mm variation of the Specialist or Staccato’s? Any advice on the advantages/disadvantages and likes/dislikes of these fine guns would be greatly appreciated!
