400 Album Check In

I made it to the 400 album mark!! Here's my profile so far.

I'll be honest, this round was a little strange. Looking back on everything, my favorite records over the last 100 days were almost all either albums I already really liked or would've called favorites before this challenge (Group Sex, Dookie, xx, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) or albums by artists who I absolutely adore where I know their discography frontwards and backwards, and would've preferred another album in their discography (...Baby One More Time, Diamond Life, The Visitors, and even MBDTF). The only new love for me was John Cale's Paris 1919.

Otherwise, my tastes feel pretty much the same, for better and for worst. Britpop, Reggae, and the Blues are all still not for me. I did find myself enjoying my second helpings of My Bloody Valentine and The Divine Comedy, though, which was nice. But my 1-stars also grew: Oasis and Britpop were bound to get a low rating, but I think Kiss' Destroyer and Tom Wait's Bone Machine are both contenders for my worst listens yet.

Hate to say it, but I think I may need to take a break for a month or so. Now that I'm near the mid-point, it almost feels like it's homework some days, especially if I'm not finding anything I find amazing. That said, I noticed a couple weeks ago that I still haven't pulled any Leonard Cohen albums, and still have a lot of Elvis Costello records to get to, so I know there's exciting things on the horizon. Maybe just pausing and working through the holiday backlog at my own pace will be good for me.

Let's hope the journey to 500 reveals some amazing things!!
